MUMBAI: Airport Customs arrested a woman, Farhath Unnisa, who was trying to smuggle 2.2 kg gold worth Rs 64 lakh at international airport on Monday. She had concealed the gold in her inner garment. The Customs later released her on bail.
Officials stated that she was a frequent traveller and after examining her details they intercepted her on suspicion. The accused had arrived from Dubai in a Jet Airways flight. During interrogation, she admitted that she was smuggling the gold on behest of someone else.
Officials stated that smugglers are using more women to smuggle gold. They also use airport staff for the crime.
