Lucknow: Going by the increase in footfall and enquiry of customers ahead of Dhanteras, market was hopeful of doing exceptionally well on the day. While the prediction held true for gold and car industry, witnessing almost a 15% surge in revenue, the consumer durable segment saw an unexpected 30-40% decline in sales compared to last year.
Jewellers were able to sell a total of about 90 kg gold on Friday worth about Rs 27 crore. This is about 15% increase from last year's Dhanteras sale of 85 kg worth around Rs 23 crore. Adeesh Jain, secretary, Lucknow Saraffa Association, said, "The hike in sales is because of market buzz about gold rates going up and also wedding season is round the corner." The association said out of total gold sold on Dhanteras, bullion comprised 25%.
